The response was so universally negative that I started coping out of my mind, saying this was going to lead to Ibu's heel turn and someone (probably Naito) was going to become the company's hero by changing it back. Well, we've had this belt for well over a year now, and it seems like this is just what we're doing. It's crazy to me. For fuck's sake, in the leadup to Ospreay v Naito, Ospreay had a line like "you failed to protect the IC and Heavyweight titles, so there's no way I'm letting you get the US." The only person to respond to the title merge positively was Jay, but he only did it for heel heat. When Ibu still had the belt during that NJC, Jay tried to get Tana to lay down for him with the logic "If I win I will change the title back and you're too weak to beat him yourself" and Tana fucking CONSIDERED IT. It's insane how it's universally despised and yet it's still what we're doing. Don't get it.
