>>10672809>What went wrongTL:DR Don't promise champagne if you pay with mountain dew. Fans were asked for way more leeway than any wrestler was granted ever, edged to oblivion and the pay off was falling to the same plateau and level he was when he got sacked - lost in a midcard tier feuds with matches worse than a 24/7 champs.
The teaser campaign was one of the finest pieces of wrestling marketing ever created, it was pitch (black) perfect for hyping up those who wanted to dig and informative enough to those watching the show. The big reveal came it was well done. Basically everyone was glad it wasn't the Fiend once again, and it had enough air in the details to leave people guessing who/what/when/why. Howdy was an intriguing new character
But then it turned sour as the action part of this wrestling show came to halt with Bray just walking in for 5 minutes for 3 minute segment where some shit happens. People wanted to see a match that didn't happen ever. Further more the story got convoluted from "Bray's vision" on a napkin to something completely different once it was produced:
With Howdy making an appearance, apparently he was BRAYS ALTER EGO as put together from various Bray interviews. He was meant as a visual metaphor for Bray's mind and actions - they were the same character, oh wau, what schmucks we were thinking this dude standing next to Bray is another wrestler.
Regardless, he was given the slack FOR MONTHS and for a expected match that was once again a overproduced effect fest that didn't even have the decency to be quick if it wasn't gonna be competitive and good. So of course, the next thing was to line him up for some big star because Brays a big star and needs a big star fight with a big star right? Gotta sell them merch, but nobody wanted to see Bray against Brock or Lashley either because both aren't anywhere near interesting match ups for FX wrestling.
