The honeymoon phase is over. Fans forgave AEW mistakes in the past because it was a new promotion and the only viable challenger to WWE. That’s no longer the case after broken promises and lower expectations. AEW needs to change course before damage to their brand is permanent.
My suggestions are:
>Integrate celebrities to special matches to promote a movie/tv series
AEW does this but ineffectively.
>Fewer non title matches with little to no payoff.
The only matches that should be emphasized is title matches. Everything else is filler and easily forgettable.
>More variety and less longer matches on TV that doesn’t go anywhere
On TV, it’s about keeping the audience engaged. Long non title matches (with the exception of #1 contender for title) are not engaging because there is little to invest in those matches. What will create longer engagement is variety. A comedy spot, a sex spot, a violent spot, etc sprinkled throughout the show.
>Clear divisions
This is more a pw problem than a AEW one but this problem is very much present in AEW. Why is a guy like Big Bill not going for WHC but someone like adam cole has had multiple title shots? Divisions need to be established to help the audience follow the wrestlers progression/story.
These are a few things that help AEW tremendously in brand identity and increase its awareness the entertainment landscape.
