I am constantly surprised at how wrestling fans act. In the last 24 hours I was told that I was lying for liking AEW. Then when I asked the person to talk about their favorite story in wrestling currently, they just told me that I can’t handle the conversation.
Moments later, I saw people lamenting that “enjoy the wrestling you like” is actually tribalism and trying to silence people. Then I was told the reason that AEW numbers are going down is because the IWC and AEW fans not taking criticism, and tell people the show is actually good. Yall, the IWC is a small percentage of a small fandom. Wrestling is not ‘cool’ in culture these days guys, people that don’t watch it don’t even know that AEW is a thing. It blows my mind that people don’t acknowledge AEW launched during what was WWE’s worst creative period ever, and now that WWE is much better than that time period it’s hurting AEW.
People have no patience it seems anymore. People are tired of the death riders, but they want long term story telling. People are apparently mad that Okada came in hell and teamed with the bucks? Never mind his whole group is gone now and he’s in his best environment, a wrestling tournament.
Like, I’m not a huge fan of Adam Cole or Jericho, but what’s the benefit of me getting online and ONLY talking about the things I didn’t like? Wouldn’t it be better if I just talked about the stuff that brought me enjoyment?
