Some guy seething that Wakana didn't eat food "elegantly" enough
>I watched your YouTube video. Let me start by saying that I’m not your hater—in fact, I think you’re a beautiful performer. When it comes to competitive eating, I understand that eating is just part of the job. Seeing someone eat a lot doesn’t strike me as strange or unpleasant at all. However, when I saw you eating a saury from the head or mixing everything together at the end with that “guzeguze” sound, it didn’t feel like a very elegant way of eating. I even showed it to my family, but they also felt that the way you ate didn’t look very graceful, which was quite disappointing. I don’t think eating itself is a bad thing, but watching someone eat in a less refined manner didn’t leave a good impression. There are competitive eaters like Gal Sone who manage to eat large amounts of food in a clean and graceful way, so I’d be happy if you could follow their example or at least be mindful of it. Please continue being the wonderful and charming “Wakana-san” that you are—not like a wrestler. Once again, I want to emphasize that I really like how cute and lively you are while eating. Keep up the great work!
>I get messages like this quite often... Since the program is aimed at an international audience, I had to express things like boldness without using words. After discussing with the staff, I tried my best within my abilities to deliver what was intended. But I guess it’s really hard to get everyone to understand... In my personal life, I don’t eat fish starting from the head—I properly remove the bones and eat neatly. I also prefer to keep side dishes and rice separate as much as possible. I don’t mix them together, and I even order beef bowls with the rice and toppings on separate plates. I’d prefer curry served with the rice and roux separately, too. But this is work. I always approach my work with the mindset of doing my best to meet what’s expected of me.
