Reeves’ departure from television was reportedly caused by a contract issue, and on May 2 it was revealed that he had not taken part in the advertised battle royal contest. Reeves provided a lengthy explanation on his personal Tumblr page the next day, on May 3, stating that he had taken the choice to leave.
He cited a lack of equitable remuneration for skill and creative frustration as the main causes of his resignation. Reeves confirmed his parting with WWE on Instagram on August 5. WWE dismissed Ryback three days later.
