redpill: the "online bullying" had little to do with it. she grew up a mixed race kid in xenophobic japan with a mother who made highly questionable parenting decisions, and certainly neglected her. a lifetime of issues bubbled underneath her cheery facade, and she has severe mental and emotional issues. not saying the bullying helped, but this girl was cutting her wrists even when she was on a roll in stardom. the bullying from the fucking TV show didn't do much, she was already on a ledge for a long time.
I know girls like Hana, if that shit happened on or off camera even with personal friends, she would go insane with depression and low self esteem and frustration with herself. it's an easy scapegoat to say the TV show and the crazy nip fans did her in, but she was a broken and stunted individual. she's a hot and talented early-20's girl who couldn't even fathom someone wanting to take her on a date because of her self loathing and familiarity with people close to her hurting or disappointing or using her like her own mom did. these are the types of girls who will cry to you for 8 hours through midnight and into the morning over her issues, you'll comfort her as best you can, and she'll tell you she feels relieved etc etc, but the very next day it'll be like you never had that consoling convo and she'll be like "you hate me, everyone hates me, I'm unsuccessful, etc etc etc"
eventually the people who genuinely care for her will do what she thinks you would have done every single day up to that point, which is say "it's a full-time job consoling you and I can't do it anymore" and cut back even slightly on the endless patience and reassurance. which to her, is basically you saying she's garbage and you want nothing to do with her.
