>>6530022To me it's not so much of an era or a culture thing as much is it is they're sticking the right people in these spots for the lack of better way to phrase it. These were models, idols or whatever that were convinced to give it a shot based off their looks and personalities (yes this matters) and didn't try to shoehorn them into something they're not. They trained them enough to be passable for they wanted to accomplish.
Where this failed in the past is that chicks that were well beyond just being coombait were stuck or pressured into doing it, which basically killed it from a mainstream perspective. Today we have the opposite problem, where there are still plenty of chicks out there have no problems doing this kind of crap but everyone feels the need to turn them into a "serious athlete or character" which always fails and makes you wonder why you hired that person in the first place (like WWE hiring Scarlett Bordeaux at her sluttiest and turning her into a covered up mute).
Know what you want to do, find the talent that fits the role and be honest with them. It's really not that fucking hard to balance this shit.
