We fought a Civil War because the Politicians in the North abused their Congressional Majority, due to a larger population, to tax the shit out of the South to pay for shit in the North (and line their own pockets).
The majority of the public in the North actually supported the South's succession. Which is why Lincoln had to use Conscription under penalty of death to raise an army, and even used the Military to overthrow entire State Governments in the North who didn't side with him.
Lincoln was unironically America's first Dictator and never even freed a single slave. The Emancipation Proclamation only applied to Southern States that he had no authority over, which today would be no different than if Joe Biden declared women in Saudi Arabia can dress however they want and divorce their husbands.
