You'll notice this about a lot of AEW wrestlers, they'll wrestle like 40 times a year prior to signing, and then despite all the posturing about how being a wrestler has always been their dream and they just love wrestling, once signed they'll have 20ish matches a year.
The AEW roster, Page included, is full of hobbyist who never planned on wrestling being their career. They're a milking a money mark, not trying to create an alternative to the WWE. The reason they put the kibosh on the house shows wasn't because they weren't successful, it's because the talent wants to work minimal dates.
