>>10804386Someone with more knowledge can correct me but yes, joshi pro-wrestling grew off the back of what "idols" were in the 70s and 80s which is very different from today. Standards were different from a talent perspective, it was more like (but not strictly) pro-wrestlers who are also singers rather than the influx of idols, which can vary from singers to models to actresses to even pornstars, looking for fame and relevancy through wrestling from the utter death of Japanese wrestling in the 2000s. Some of them are failures like Maki Itoh, Kamiyu, Tam Nakano and Unagi, some of the also try to still be fully active, some of them come into wrestling to jumpstart their idol career similar to WWE guys wanting to be movie stars.
Before the Crush Gals, the Beauty Pair were the top duo and they had hard appeal to the audience The Crush Gals would pull in hard years later. As another example, Mimi Hagiwara who was made for the male audience (she later became an evangelist christian or something). Here's a clip of the Beauty Pair singing where the crowd sounds like that VTuber concert video people are making fun of right now.
