>>10529682Later that night, after the show...
Duna paced up and down the sands of her beach, thoughts of fury and confusion and disappointment filling her. She had come so close, so very close to ending things between her and Bishamonta, and in the end, she had failed, and Bishamonta had walked away from her with her head held high, as if she had won a victory over the Beach Bitch.
And that was the story of Duna's entire career to this point. Coming so close every time, and always failing in the end, always falling short of her goals. Even when she had beaten Surfer Girl, it didn't change the fact that Surfer was still champion, and Duna herself still had nothing.
Nothing.
She couldn't even touch Kuro.
She couldn't avenge the murder of her crab against Yokoko.
She couldn't settle things with Bishamonta as she had declared so arrogantly that she would.
For a brief moment, doubt began to creep into Duna's mind, the fear of not being good enough, the thought that she really was nothing more than a shitstain on the WWA like so many of her detractors had claimed. She had to wonder: what was it all for? Coming so close to her goals every time and always failing in the end:
With a sigh, she looked out over the gentle waters of the sea before her, and that's when she thought she heard it.
