>At the New Japan Pro-Wrestling event at the Tokyo Dome on the 4th, IWGP Women's Champion Mayu Iwatani (31) defeated AZM (22) to successfully defend her title for the ninth time.
>A high-speed battle began with AZM launching a diving body attack to the outside of the ring early on. Iwatani avoided a moonsault press and was subjected to a furious onslaught with a Canadian Destroyer and a double arm Canadian Destroyer.
>La Mistica then rolled her up with Azumi Sushi, but she didn't allow the three count. She countered with a German suplex at the count of one, and Iwatani countered with a German suplex.
>AZM continued to attack with La Mistica, but Iwatani stopped her and slammed her into the mat with a Tombstone Piledriver. She countered a Moonsault Press at the count of two, and finally put an end to the fierce battle with her deadly two-stage dragon suplex hold.
>Iwatani was disappointed that no match was scheduled for the January 4th Tokyo Dome last year. "I've been holding on to this belt with the determination to definitely compete this year and to increase its value. I'm really happy to finally be able to compete on January 4th," she said with a satisfied look on her face. "I'll continue to do my best as a female pro wrestler, Iwatani Mayu. I'll keep my eyes on her, so please keep an eye on her. I want 2025 to be the year of IWGP Women's Iwatani Mayu," she vowed to make further progress.
