The turn worked so well because they didn't pussyfoot around and do the "will she or won't she stab her in the back" act that everyone knows had to happen. When it was time to pull the trigger, they put it right on Toni's head and blew her brains out in spectacular fashion. It wasn't just a home-run, it was an actual unforgettable moment which are becoming harder and harder to come by in AEW.
Ever since then it's been hit or miss. The pull aparts have been fine, Toni's insanity gets pops, but anytime they've tried to verbalize the story since then it's been lacking if not a dud, which is kind of why I'm fearing whatever this Mariah movie is they're doing on Wednesday. It'll be easier and better than her doing live promo again, but they're just doing too much now.
