In WWE this actually wasn't a problem with Vince in charge, and actually became a positive and was what got him over with fans. However in AEW the goal of the company isn't to make money, the goal is to entertain Tony. In that environment Bryan is free to indulge his Markiest of urges and do stupid shit like killing off his own Singles Heel run (which was fantastic) and go form a stupid Stable with Mox and Claudio while they push a dimeless geek like Yuuter just because he likes him as a person.
Basically Bryan doesn't care about getting himself Over at this point in his career on top of being in a Company that doesn't care about drawing money. And so you get what you got here.
