Indie wrestlers have been getting called up to work ROH, and having cancelled their indie gigs, arrived at AEW/ROH and then not been used. Artois didn't even say that AEW wanted him to cancel, but Dean made it a thing, that is now going to become something that no indie wrestler will ever say again.
Here's the other thing, of course when AEW comes calling, they definitely do expect that you are going to kiss the ring and drop your indie commitments. They'll never outright say it to you, but it's expected. This dude made the mistake of turning them down and showing loyalty to the indie scene, and AEW (yes the company that brands itself as being "for the boys") had to punish him for it.
