AEW's rights can't be sold to another party, so if WBD can't afford them, they get canceled. Simple as. But that doesn't mean they couldn't immediately go to Paramount or Disney/FX and get paid MORE (not less) than their current deal.
People fucking care more about what /pw/ roasts would look like more than they care about common sense. WWE cut Swerve and now he's a world champion and main event level talent. Shit happens, executives make mistakes, not every firing/cancel/expiration is some humiliating experience that ends careers and businesses.
