>>12542588The big 4 networks (ABC/CBS/FOX/NBC) have been moving away from scripted content and towards reality shit for years. The writers and actors strikes only hastened this transition. Go look at any of the "original" shows they do run these days and they are all 10-20 year old franchises. L&O spinoffs, NCIS spinoffs, Chicago stuff. 911 was a more recent "hit" but the per episode cost was too high that FOX cancelled it so it will move to ABC. Think about that. Fox got rid of their highest rated scripted show because the production cost was more than the ad revenue, or at least bad enough that a reality show would be more profitable.
Sports and reality shows are the bread and butter or broadcast TV these days, and if Amazon locks up one of the big sports to an exclusive contract it will create a vacuum for more reality or live sports type content. But after Fox cancelled Smackdown, I can't see any of the big 4 doing wrestling again soon. Sure, the CW is getting NXT, but they are the lowest rated network that gets beat by a lot of cable channels. Their highest rated shows would kill to get 600k viewers an episode.
