The question I guess will be if he thinks it's more damaging to his brand to (1) go heel or (2) publicly get booed with a smile on his face in front of a national TV audience of millions (and millions).
For 20 years he's been able to coast on being the Rock, and he could be lame and it wouldn't matter because he's so incredibly over. Now, one way or another he's backed into a corner and going to have to put in serious work to get the correct heat.
