The reason I respect Japanese wrestling is because they have a samurai mentality about destroying their bodies for fans and for wrestling. To them, it's the logical exchange for money and notoriety, for all that the business gives them. Even in these days when they are given less than ever, these guys are still all about going out on their shield.
And it's because they actually care about the fan experience.
They know that most wrestling is super fake and gay looking and so they'll take the extra risk, they'll take the extra damage to make wrestling something that people actually want to pay money to see.
This isn't 1955 anymore. MMA exposed wrestling a long time ago. If you want wrestling to have viewership, there needs to be some element of risk to the performers or else nobody gives a shit. If you want to get noticed and you're struggling to break out in the business, taking risks is a great way to get noticed. It's why even the most shit-for-brains e-drone will pop for big ladder spots every Money in the Bank.
