They played off the history of Toni's ghosts. Shida was arguably responsible for driving her nuts and they were rivals or like a year or two, Deonna was her ex best friend and a "roommate", Thunder Rosa fucked her over. Say what you want about the matches, but the stories themselves were perfectly fine. Mariah is Mariah, enough said. Her relationship with Mina is directly through Mariah and her world tour excursion after dropping the belt to Mariah, so that's an easy one to tell.
Then we just start getting into "wrestling stories". We don't know shit about Bayne but she's a huge bitch and everybody loves David vs Goliath story. Serena Deeb is a "super serious women's wrestler", Toni Storm is a clown that wanted to get in her head by doing a striptease and being as "unserious" as possible. Conflicting personalities? You can work with that. And then we just had all these minor callbacks and who's the real GOAT shit with Mercedes. Not interesting to me but it's an easy story to tell.
Now he's running out of shit. There's one ghost story to tell with Jamie but she's injured and cold as hell and there's one obvious story that they seem hellbent on not telling which is that Kris Statlander beat "Rookie" Toni Storm before she got the belt back. Why not tell that story instead of this neverending frenemies with Willow? I mean shit they're "lucky" that Mina just got injured and they've got something to play off with Athena because otherwise what the fuck else do they have going for it? Don't even get me started on the rest of the roster.
I know people are hating how she's getting Flanderized but at the end of the day, Toni can work on autopilot for a bit. The rest of the division is where creative help is desperately needed.
