To his credit, he’s built up credible main eventers since Vince left and is willing to give dudes a shot at the top, even if it doesn’t always work out immediately, like with Jey. He’s also more considerate of continuity, regularly referencing past feuds and relationships between wrestlers.
People glaze Shawn’s booking but TKO doesn’t give a shit about NXT other than getting wrestlers ready for the big time, so he can actually put together proper feuds and build up matches without having to stick in Travis Scott or Jelly Roll matches, or completely rebook entire storylines just because Dwayne decided he wanted to show up that week.
On the flip side, he does drop the ball in certain areas: Cena’s heel turn was a wash when it should have been an easy story, even with the Rock fucking off, tag team booking is a foreign concept to this dude, he really doesn’t like supernatural gimmicks like Wyatt but flip flops constantly on whether to feature them or not, and his booking of women has been hot and cold. He also really doesn’t take criticism well, although his ego doesn’t usually get in the way of him course correcting when needed.
I’d say if business ever starts to nosedive and he get the boot in favor of some brown nosing exec with no wrestling experience, people will realize he wasn’t all that bad.
