yeah absolutely. AEW even has Arn, Brock, and Pillman Jr in the same fed but they haven't done it. Why they haven't utilized that idea is beyond me. Oddly enough, the only guy who did put them together was Conrad Thompson, if only for one match.

Looking and acting the part. I'd be down for that. But I also liked tully and enjoyed alot of his runs with the us title and his promos. Still enjoyed his 84 run with the us title and he would tell anyone to fight him for 20 min and win and he'd pay them 10k and give them the belt. good promos and I still think of that kind of stuff is needed in wrestling.

Why did Tully get essentially blackballed after he left WWF in late 1989? I understand that he popped a test for cocaine and so he was fired and WCW recinded their offer. But lots of guys did MUCH worse in the 80s and 90s yet still got brought back. Tully had very short runs in AWA and ECW but the rest were indies or one-off appearances. I don't get it. Dude was still very good in 1989 with the Brainbusters, and he was only 36 in 1990. Hard to believe he was essentially done.

Yeah I have no clue why nobody can become a star in this day and age. But promoters are also terrified of doing alot of things in wrestling for fear it will offend or cancel them or something. If I ever opened a fed i'd def have the wrestlers cutting promos raw and matches would go back to the style of learn to improvise. I realized awhile ago why I love the matches from the 80s so match in the territories. wrestlers would improvise constantly in matches. sure sometimes it looked bad but overall even the lower card guys would put on entertaining matches. Im a huge fan of Rocky King and various others ive seen over the years in footage. recently got to see some old 84 footage of a couple of feds ive never seen (only heard of) and enjoyed all that. and again all the people could improvise. Botch happens just start hitting him and work into other spots. Wwe they just drop cuz its the spot and cant improvise. but I got WAY of topic from tessa and her career as a thong wrester in robs fed. glad to see there's other oldschool 4h and tully fans.

I'm surprised Flair didn't get him a job with WCW, but Bischoff clearly never cared much about the horsemen so that might be why. That's all just theory of course.

You seem to understand it well enough. Promoters aren't letting the talent get over organically. They aren't letting talent talk off script or to improvise in the ring either. Everything has to be planned and practiced until "perfect." This effectively strips the "soul" out of it since wrestlers never get to show any of themselves, only the corporate character they are paid to portray. And it's not only a problem for WWE. WWE has been the industry leader for so long that other promotions, like AEW, commit these same mistakes and probably don't even realize it.

pretty much yeah. The best wrestling characters are just exaggerated versions of someone's real personality. But people can't do that in a strictly controlled environment. All the creativity is gone, and without that it's worth nothing.

I watched tommy rich cut a promo and the guy he was talking with made a comment about tommys opponent and tommy just started laughing and said some off the cuff stuff about his last time they faced off. than to end the promo he made a comment about some other villians antics earlier in the show and said they'd meet up soon enough. which is anothher thing I dont see in modern feds is that kind of stuff in promos. wrestlers making comments about other wrestlers even if they dont sit in the same tier. tommy calling out that villian for jumping the person after the match was good stuff. But yes I basically agree that they arent allowed to portray themselves as much and now its all soulless corporate. got to get the perfect spot the perfect interview the perfect stars. another thing about having wrestlers do promos raw if I ran a fed would be it'd teach them to cut better promos instead of just memorizattion of a script and promo points.

imagine if a young Ric Flair joined the WWE today. They would never let him be the nature boy, they would have put him in a fucking turkey costume or something and made him dance for pat patterson. And there would be no stylin and profilin, no "to be the man you gotta beat the man", no awesome cage match at Starrcade 83, no awesome Royal Rumble win in 92 and so on. Sadly that is why I spend more time watching 80s 90s wrestling (70s is hard af to find sometimes) and book old 80s 90s era feds in tew 2016. Exactly a huge part of what is missing is the soul and letting people be more than a corporate cutout. NWA-era WCW would be right after the Jim Crockett era, which is what I was referring to. WCW was also KINO though, it's a close second place for me. First good hardcore match I ever saw was Cactus Jack Vs Vader from Halloween Havoc 93 and it made a big impression

yeah it's weird, Mercer was in last year's tournament but then he wasn't seen in XPW again until this year's tournament. It would be nice to see him become a full-timer, he's another one of those amazing talents that the big two just missed for some reason.
