>>10017225There is some unironic truth to this. The biggest, most popular and legit characters are Superman and Batman. This is akin to Jericho, Sting and Punk. Sure, they're over the hill but they're the most over guys from the "golden age" who are still active. The closest legit mainstream guy WWE has is Goldberg, who is currently a free agent.
And when I say mainstream, I mean when tens of millions, if not hundreds of millions of people, know they are. Even if they aren't on particularly hot runs at the moment.
WWE doesn't really match that great with MCU, unless you're talking the M-She-U. The MCU revitalized the career of RDJ and launched the careers of rising stars like the Chrises to legit star status. Prior to MCU and outside of it, there really aren't any stars any more. Not like when guys like Arnold or Sly or even Kevin Spacey were able to be household names.
As far as I know, WWE doesn't have any active household names. Closest would be Brock, who went off to make a name for himself in UFC. Even Roman, to the best of my knowledge, is just a big fish in a small pond. Sasha Banks maybe? Although the Mandalorian hasn't done for her what it did for Gina Carano (pre-cancelled).
