I’ve been into Japanese variety shows since 2021 and I’ve noticed that Inoki (and other NJPW wrestlers like Chono, Muto, Liger, Tenzan, Tanahashi and Honma) are appearing and/or mentioned a lot in them but the only AJPW wrestler appearing or mentioned as much as them is Tenryu, and he’s been a freelancer most of his career. Hell, even Hogan, Andre and Norton were talked about but nothing about AJPW.

In the 80s, Inoki had a feud with Beat Takeshi, Japan’s biggest comedy name, and their feud extended to both the ring and tv. Their live NHK baseball match tourney between Team NJPW and Team Takeshi-Gundan drew one of the biggest household ratings in the history of variety shows in Japan.
