He was pushed hard as fuck. Way harder than he needed to be. He got strong midcard programs from 04-06 and even drifted into the main event picture, being in one of the EC matches for the world title. But he was notoriously lazy, unmotivated and hard to work with backstage.

Carlito didn't get a push because he went into the WWE thinking he was going to be immediately working with Cena or something because his dad runs Puerto Rico. He got ass blasted as fuck when nobody knew who Carlos Colon was and decided it was some elaborate setup to disrespect him where it was people pretending not to know. It didn't help that the only people who knew about Carlos were old guys who remembered him orchestrating Brody getting murdered and then told the newspaper that he had it coming. This led to Carlito having weird, passive aggressive heat with basically everyone for years and being a pouty bitch over it even when he got treated really well relative to how much he put in.

It's even worse than people think too. Every college football and basketball team in the country (which is probably close to over 1,000 teams) is going to have at least 50% of their players be over 6 foot. And statistically, there's around 35,000,000 or so people over 6 foot in the US. Yet somehow wrestling can't find any of them.

I swear that AEW purposely goes to local indies and asks for the smallest wrestler available. It's the only explanation, because normal people on the street are going to tower over these dorks.

Nah, the whole storyline with Flair where Flair was cutting promos on him about him being lazy was based off of the fact that WWE paired him up with Flair backstage in the hopes that he'd listen to someone like him and even then Carlito kept blowing him off and not taking his advice seriously. So Flair cut a promo on him on TV which was done by WWE as a way of publicly telling him to get his shit together and he STILL refused to do so which led to him getting fired.

Carlito was always pushed pretty well and more or less had a solid upper-midcard spot his entire run. If he didn't have a shit attitude and went to rehab for his painkiller addiction (refusing to do so is why he was fired) then he likely would've gotten at least a thank you run like Kofi got.
