well I'm watching a show called Dontaku and I'm not done yet, but so far the quality of the wrestling itself is really top tier. The whole thing is well produced and I like how they try to give it the feel of a shoot fighting sport. The only small issue is the lack of subtitles for in-ring promos on live broadcasts, but I suppose that can't be helped.

Try whatever you can find.
Just watch wrestling to enjoy it, don't go looking for a brand to worship like the mentally ill people here.
You can find DDT, noah and dragon gate shows on the watch wrestling sites. Maybe ajpw and bjw too. There are loads of companies though.
I would recommend finding old Hustle shows, if anything, because that was the peak of pro wrestling.

Yeah it's got death match division and strong division. I don't know how they're doing right now, they were on the verge of closing down not long ago.
Therese also Freedoms for deathmatches, ran by Jun Kasai. And some smaller indies. And you can find old stuff like W*ING and UWFI on YouTube. There's some Michinoku Pro shows with bizarre deathmatches too.

If you watch the English feed the commentators will at least explain to you roughly what's going on in real time
Usually the English commentary is dogass compared to the Japanese even if you don't speak Japanese so it's a tradeoff though

Taka Michinoku? He works for New Japan and has his own promotion that was called KDojo/Kaientai Dojo but recently renamed to JTO. He was only ever a midcarder in MPro, then wwr signed him in the 90s. Michinoku Pro was the Great Sasuke show, and still is. They have a special event every year called the great space war, or something, where sasuke and his friends defeat a great threat to earth like Godzilla, or the avengers. They introduced a second heavyweight belt (for MVP kek) and for a while it was equal to the iwgp heavyweight title. Then they merged them into the cursed belt that they have now. No one liked that. They have a US belt and for some reason their amercian show also has it's own belt. There's also an open weight title that rarely ever gets defended against juniors. That one was originally for Naito to help people see him as a credible heavyweight because his face push wasn't working.
The title scene is a bit meh right now. Okada has been booked so strong and the other top guys are old/busted or gone. So this is hopefully going to be a period of elevating a lot of guys, but doing so will be difficult since they only have upper midcard guys and Okada to build them.
Unless they call in aew guys and beat them all

Definitely check out HUSTLE bro. There used to be a guy who translated the shows and added English subtitles to some uploads but he doesn't seem to be around anymore online. Anyway, the main storyline stretches out through the entire run of the company. The main "heel" was Takada as a fascist 9/11 truther dictator who kept a harem of Japanese succubuses and he would summon "monsters" against the babyfaces, the main one being Hard Gay, a flamboyant S&M fetishist
It's honestly the most based promotion to have ever existed and the peak of wrestling
Here is the first Hustlemania event where the promo package about 10-15 minutes in gives you an idea of what they're all about as well as the main event, which is one of the most fun matches ever

clearly some anons in this thread disagree, but I think English commentary is excellent. Kevin Kelly and Chris Charlton are a great duo. the quality of the guest commentators varies though

They're my favorite commentators, I think they're a great duo as well
HOWEVER, I can't listen to English commentary if they're not at the venue because either Kevin or Chris' audio levels and quality are super fucked up. Just shitty production quality desu, so I always switch to Jap commentary when that happens.

Definitely check out Wrestle Kingdom this year (and most years) from NJPW, and the Keiji Mutoh (Great Muta) retirement shows from NOAH this year. One of the best legend retirement tours ever. WWE even loaned Shinsuke Nakamura to main event the Budokan on new years day and it was kino, AEW also loaned Sting for another show. The final retirement show in the Tokyo Dome in February was one of my favorite PPVs ever and had great wrestling up and down the card with top guys from half a dozen different promotions plus a really great "finish the story" style surprise ending.
I also recommend checking out Kazusada Higuchi's recent title run in DDT if you find yourself browsing Wrestle Universe, it was a lot of fun
