He is the rare case of the mark in the ring who actually genuinely cares about the craft and the business beyond a "wowee so cool I get to do all my favorite japanese moves on tv now" way. He'll never really lobby to push himself because he knows he can handpick an up and coming guy and casually have a 45 minute match that will mean more than any title program to Bryan himself

He couldn't politic in WWE but it's a weird case where whoever was hiring/doing developmental had a vision of him as a future big star so he was marked for the top of the card, but then got saddled with dogshit and didn't have the ability to politic himself out of it
