How come he got to beat Cena clean and win a world title in less than a year when everyone else from TNA had to go through NXT?

The WWE causals knew who he was and his surprise debut resulted in an earth shattering pop which other TNA signees wouldn't have gotten.

AJ styles was the face of TNA for a decade and there is no way most wrestling fans didn't know about him.

And he clearly proved in NJPW and on the independent that he can wrestle any style and even in TNA he showed that he could cut promos.

So there was no reason to put him in NXT.

You’ve got to imagine all the WWE talent who went through TNA must have put him over whenever they returned back to WWE. Dude was TNA’s biggest homegrown star. Though I think Storm and Roode could have been just as over had WWE not low balled the former and fumbled the latter
