A big part of this kind of bullshit is antiquated insecurity bullshit. Old school wrestlers are painfully insecure about their profession because they play pretend tough guys and desperately want to be one. Then they live in constant fear that other people are mocking them for being faggots and fake.
So then in the performance centre you have a lot of guys who are real athletes from real spors come through, and guys who have spent decades being fake athletes decide these people need to prove themselves, but really they want to show them that "dis bizns" is hard! They want them to respect the business even though they know this carny bullshit is not worthy of respect.
