Something i found weird about this match is that J.R and Vince propose that maybe Austin and Bret will want to make the other quit. At some point one of them, i think J.R, says something along the lines of: "this might end up being a submission match". Not only that, multiple times throughout the match they ponder the possibility of Austin getting Bret in the sharpshooter
The first thing seems like foreshadowing to their future submission match at WM 13, but that only came about after HBK lost his smile in early '97. Did the build up to the match center about quitting in some fashion? They really tried to drive the submission point home

Mid-South in '84 is very beginner-friendly. The shows usually have a couple of angles and/or decent matches. It also features a lot names familiar to modern fans.
In the first months you get a main event scene that is constantly tied together and culminates in Bill Watt's in-ring return. A great build up. Simple, but clever

January 2000 is a completely arbitrary cutoff since 2000 was no different from 1999 culturally. Something like January 2005 would work better as a cutoff since Rock, Austin, Brock left in 2004 and Cena became the main guy shortly after.

Michaels for example with his turnbuckle bump, Curt Henning had this bump where when he got irish whipped into the corner he'd do this weird baseballslide thing and hit his crotch on the ringpost.
There was also Rey Mysterio sliding face first out of the ring on his belly. The Rock sometimes doing his weird rubber bumps, the best example for that would be him taking a stunner.
And i know for a fact there were more but i can't really think of them right now

It's not about general culture, it's about the wrestling scene

That would imply a good chunk of the RA is old school, and, i mean, c'mon. Also, by 2004 WCW and ECW had been dead for 3 years, any semblance of a territorial system had disappeared, TNA and the indies were born, writers were in charged of booking instead of actual bookers, and the rising talents of that timeframe had been trained in OVW
It is also a WWF-centric cutoff point, since the japanese scene had major happenings at different times. There was a paradigm shift across the wrestling world around the turn of the millenium, so i think it's best to leave the cutoff there
