The Wyatt Family was perfect for Bray. It allowed him to do his overly-theatrical promos because it made sense for a cult leader-type to do that. His powers were more grounded in reality. He was seen as more of a legit threat back then not because he was some magical dominating force himself, but because he controlled dominating forces in men that were larger than him. That's what made the character work so well. Even Brock had no problem selling for Bray back then, he took more than one Sister Abigail from Bray to help put him over
He should have never changed his gimmick from that. He didn't necessarily have to keep the same men in the family for years and years, as long as he had a few big men always under his control
