I've been watching him since CZW and outside of his NXT stuff I've seen most of what he's done at all the other promotions. Always thought he was "good" but never "great" at anything, he's a good talker, with the right opponent can have a good to great match, he's got a weird body but that's more recent I swear he looked better when he was chunky in PWG but he's conventionally attractive so a marketable look. Never understood why people have been talking about him as "obvious" world title potential in a big company as far back as his first ROH title run.

Unless he's shoot fucking Britt on the side, I will never understand how Tony Khan thought it would be a good idea to make this guy one of the faces of the company when he regularly smoked his ass during the Wednesday Night Wars and he couldn't even beat out a small Japanese woman that doesn't even speak on English on his own brand as a ratings draw.
I mean for fucks sake, they made this guy one of the key players of their no dimes reality show. I don't even dislike the guy. I just don't see IT. There is nothing about Cole that screams "Star" potential. He's a high quality and high character good hand, but he is the definition of an upper midcarder to Jobber to the Stars.

He's got buckets of charisma and iwc darling cred going back a decade.
He can talk and he can work, though the bad influences around him might fuck that up completely.
He carries himself well. He knows how to act professionally, unlike a lot of his co-workers like Jungle Jack and the Bucks.
But he is visually inaffective right now and the horrible booking doesn't help.

This is exactly how I feel. I like the guy, but there’s a shitload of other people I’d put ahead of him.
Like if there was some snark version of the airport test (which he certainly fails), how many people would legitimately say Cole is their favorite wrestler, or even in their top five for that matter? He might be upper tier in every category minus physique, but he’s not the best any of them. There’s nothing special about a Jack of All trades.

That's the thing, there's guys on the roster who seem way more interesting, at least he's a underdog face now which suites him better on a show stacked with heels that have a little something else that blows him out of the water. If he was still a heel he's still behind Rush and Jay White for me, they don't have many faces that the crowd legit loves so he's found a decent spot.
