>>10186094Since then, we have seen white wrestlers like Kenny Omega, Jon Moxley, Chris Jericho, Cody Rhodes, and Adam Cole dominate the main event scene and hold the top titles. We have seen non-Black wrestlers of color like Sammy Guevara, Miro, Hikaru Shida, and The Lucha Brothers win titles and get pushed. But we have not seen any Black wrestlers get the same treatment.
Why is that? Why is AEW so reluctant to push its Black talent to the top? Why is AEW so behind on diversity and representation compared to other wrestling companies like WWE, Impact Wrestling, or even Ring of Honor? Why is AEW not listening to its Black fans and wrestlers who are asking for more opportunities and respect?
I don’t have the answers to these questions, but I hope that AEW does. I hope that they realize that they have a problem with diversity and that they need to fix it. I hope that they start giving their Black talent more chances to shine and prove themselves. I hope that they start booking their Black talent better and more consistently. I hope that they start treating their Black talent as equals and not as afterthoughts.
Because if they don’t, they will lose a lot of fans and wrestlers who are tired of being overlooked and underappreciated. They will lose a lot of credibility and respect as a progressive and inclusive wrestling company. They will lose a lot of potential and talent that could make their product even better.
AEW has a lot of potential to be the best wrestling company in the world. But they need to do better when it comes to their Black community. They need to do better for their Black wrestlers, their Black fans, and themselves.
