Hell even the fact that he punched people more often than he grabbed a headlock was pretty edgy when you compare it with the way Bob Backlund would wrestle.
Nobody wants to see their hero lose because the other guy broke the rules and they were too much of a pussy to hit back. Winners in real life, even good guys, are going to be willing to bend the rules to overcome the odds if the other guy is playing dirty and everyone knows that. Sitting there saying "well shucks, he sure did cheat but at least i played it straight!" after eating a pin makes you look like such a cuck that I don't even understand how Vince thinks it could work
