Hogan was huge and WWF back then was huge in general, everyone watched it, kids AND grown ups.
Even old Grandma's in central Asian soviet republics knew who Hogan was.
Nowadays nobody really cares about modern WWE, it's not mainstream at all, I'm not saying that the Tribal Chief gimmick is bad but it's not super famous/mainstream as Hogan's and Austin's runs were.
