As embarrassing as his NXT persona is he had a dimes look in NJPW so it’s more an example of how everything in America is worse than a slight on Fredericks. And it was a big deal, not necessarily because Fredericks has proven himself to be this huge talent they lost (we will never truly know) but he was the guy they chose to win the Young Lion Cup out of that entire group (including Narita, Umino, and Tsuji) and his breaking point was the fact that he wasn’t included in G132 which somehow made space for Yujiro and Chase but not for him. It was a problem NJPW created for themselves for no reason, aside from an obvious lack of motivation to showcase the LA Dojo talent they themselves built and got the facts invested into.

I’m not sure why something happening willingly means you aren’t being taken for a ride. Maybe I don’t understand the meaning of that phrase the way I think I do but regardless they got fucked by Kenny and FTR. Tongans, while I agree personally aren’t huge losses, they’re worth mentioning, namely Tama who has been there for 10+ years and was very popular the audience there. Fredericks and Kidd are only memes because NJPW invested nothing into them after COVID - but the YL’s are their best chance at gaijins who will stick around for the long haul, so yes anything bad involving them is bad for the company. Also yes Will could be a worked injury but I do think he is leaving regardless. I guess it’s all speculation though.

To get 'taken for a ride' implies that you're getting taken advantage of. If NJPW is willingly accepting, and for all we know maybe even proposing this arrangement with Kenny and FTR having few defenses, it's hard for me to call that getting taken for a ride, or getting exploited.

I think Karl's is a bigger deal simply because the NEVER belt is more of an actual staple title of the promotion that has some importance as a midcard belt. The US title has never mattered, neither have the tag belts really because NJPW just doesn't care that much about tags.

I think they both got fucked in ways beyond the titles just not being there. The IWGP tag champions skipped WTL - only time that’s ever happened. The WTL might be a shitter league to some but that’s still a really bad look and WTL was widely accepted to be much better than previous year editions. That was the main thing about the FTR reign that bothered me, you had a lot of great teams in WTL last year (Aussie Open, Bishamon, TMDK) actually taking it seriously but the actual champions couldn’t be bothered. Will meanwhile was in a US title reign that had insane momentum and was largely overshadowed Jay’s world title reign. Constantly defended as well as an entire G1 block based around passing the US title around between Juice, Finlay and Ospreay. That rub from being Ospreay could’ve gone to someone who could do way more with it (Shingo or SANADA) but instead it’s on Kenny who hasn’t been in Japan since January, and likely never will be during his reign. Ospreay has just been completely directionless due to being in a feud that cannot actually move forward at all.

They might the right move teaming him with Gedo, but it’s still hard to take seriously. It felt super out of nowhere and didn’t make much sense to me. Finlay, Clark, Fale, Gedo, Ishimori and KENTA is an absolutely dire line-up.
