Taker was a young wrestler on the brink of being a superstar, and Hogan was afraid of him taking his spot. So tried to lie on him to hurt his push.
It's why so many people hated Hogan. The guy was a piece of shit most of his career.

I was there. You can actually see me in the front row if you pause the match at 4:29. I'm the kid with the Hulkamania bandana. Believe me when I say that the entire front row audibly gasped at the sound of Hogan's neck shattering like glass. It was a real scary situation. My mom pretty much grabbed me by my hand and dragged me out of the arena because she was worried Paul Bearer would order the Undertaker to kill us, too. I didn't want to leave the Hulkster to die like that but she didn't give me much choice. Still haunts my nightmares at times.
