Honestly if it would have just led to Despy losing to Hiromu again a week later I'd rather wait for the inevitable BoSJ win. I say this as someone who seethed at the obvious outcome at last year's finals. I think it's more likely to happen than not. If he wasn't such an important part of the division I'd be more worried, but he's one half of the biggest match the division can put on at any moment. Plus, as much as the company is experiencing a wave of younger guys coming in, unless Fujita stays junior long term (he's 5'10", same as Taichi, Shingo, etc, so if he bulks he could probably go hebbyq, possibly before he graduates/returns from excursion) Wato is going to be the last Japanese junior dojo graduate for a while. Which isn't to say that Knight, Akira, Connors, etc. won't get their shots, but it's not like Despy has a whole Super Generation Army on his ass. With Wato already getting his first finals and very possibly his first tournament win its not like one or even multiple Despy wins in the next few years would be perceived like Fujita winning the GHC in 2022.

Fair points, although to continue the Tanahashi comparisons, Despy hasn't been at the top of his division for a fifth of the amount of time Tana had. Tana first won the belt in 2006 and had been at the top ever since; Despy first won in 2021 and (I only started watching in 2020, so correct me if I'm wrong) only really started to be treated as a top guy in the division around 2020, particularly after the BoSJ 2020 finals. Despy also isn't as broken down as Tanahashi; even though Tana managed to briefly convince me that he could beat Shingo for the belt in 2021, he's past the point of being able to work that type of match consistently without grinding himself into powder. On the other hand, Despy is at the top of his game right now; everybody in the same BoSJ block as Despy as likely as not had their best match of the tournament with him, and he was having a great run of title matches in 2021-22 before they put it on Ishimori. Despy is seven years older than Hiromu but there's a reasonable possibility given how generally safe his style is that he outlasts him at the top of the division, and despite Hiromu still being the division's biggest draw I think a Despy BoSJ win is more palatable to people right now than another Hiromu win.

The only belts I'd take out are the STRONG titles and the NEVER Singles because it no longer serves much of a purpose and KOPW and the TV belt are its true successors. Aside from that, I don't think there's a belt problem.

Nah, Stardom's belt bloat was before Bushiroad. Bushiroad has only added the one IWGP women's belt, everything else is older.
The reason for Stardom's problem is that their "midcard" belt is jacked up to a too high powerlevel so you basically need to be lined up for a major push to qualify for it. And to try and fix this they brought in a bunch more singles midcard belts but they all have gimmicks limiting who is allowed to challenge so it doesn't actually fix anything. There's still no belt for an ordinary-ass jobber to the stars to win by herself, although maybe the IWGP will end up fixing that.

Honestly I think Gedo has done a good job booking around Tony's autism. Tony (and the AEW fans who pretend they still like NJPW) only want the top guys circa 2018-19. Throw a NEVER 6 man match, ZSJ vs Danielson, a KENTA Strong title defence and an Ospreay match on the show and they will be sated, it's not like they're going to start fucking around with the BC or J5G storylines
