Like all the other territory promoters, he booked on cronyism, more than what's best for business. That's why Jr was the better promoter, and all the other guys from Sr's era got mogged. He liked Bob more. All the "he wanted a White American champion!" is bullshit after the fact. The fact is, he didn't want Graham is champ, even though he was drawing extraordinary dimes, because he was better friends with Backlund. Simple, and we still see this shit today. People say "well, he didn't want a heel as champ", they could've turned Graham face. He didn't want to. He wanted his friend Backlund as champ. End of story.

Billy Graham was a huge draw but he was fucking insane. He probably did crazy shit that made Vince Sr be like I ain't changing my plans and went with Backlund who he saw as having more potential as a babyface. Also the WWWF was traditionally a babyface promotion so Vince Sr was also very old fashioned.

I've actually heard he never turned Billy Graham face because Vince Sr didn't believe that a former heel could ever be over as a babyface, I think the reasoning is that if they were bad at first they will always have a bad side.

Russian, that's an ethnic wrestler. If you can easily tell the country they came from then they're ethnic. For example Bruno was obviously Italian, Pedro was Hispanic, Ivan was Russian, Stasiak Croatian, but you couldn't put Graham into a nationality, he was just White.
