It was going to be Bray's new persona and he had Bo Dallas rehired to play Uncle Howdy, who would "consume" Bray after Brock trounced him at Wrestlemania and turn Bray into his vessel (meaning Bray in a modified Uncle Howdy costume).
Problem with it is that Brock thought he was too good to fight Bray even though Bray was going to lose to him, plus it getting leaked that Bo was under the mask (meaning that people wanted Bo as Howdy as a full-on separate entity) and the ultimate irony, that Bray's first feud back was with LA Knight, who fans cheered even though he was supposed to be the bad guy in the feud and people getting pissy that Knight was being sacrificed to Bray (though in truth, Hunter only picked him because none of the big names wanted to work with Bray and Knight agreeing to take one for the team, since Hunter got him out of god-awful Max Dupri gimmick).
It was a clusterfuck and quite frankly could STILL be salvage by just having Bo Dallas continue to wrestle as Uncle Howdy and make him a generic supernatural heel.
