It embraced pop culture at the time and got away from the hokey Saturday morning cartoon characters . Most of the kids who grew up watching wrestling were in high school and needed something more adult.

1996 was the transition year for both companies, WCW just got a head start

Nah. Wrestling was great and kino as fuck between 1992 and 1995 but it just wasn't resonating with an increasingly jaded and edgy culture. The Attitude Era took off because it fit the late 90's like a glove. Looking back on the New Generation now it utterly wipes the floor with the PG era and everything that came after it.

It wasn't even kino. I never switched sides. Stayed along for the entire WWE ride. Even though the ratings were shit, you had some good characters like Mankind who were holding things down until Austin became a star.

Mankind was way more kino than nWo. Real WWF chads weren't paying attention to WCW. Some of those early Mankind feuds against the Undertaker and the way his character evolved was the best kino in wrestling.

WWF vs. WCW. No one at the time saw it coming and Scott Hall coming in as Razor Ramon from the audience was a legitimately oh shit moment. Nash coming in also cemented that WWF was really coming in to take over. Hogan turning heel was a breath of fresh air and made sense given that he was THE face of WWF. The initial run-ins prior to Hogan's heel turn were good too.

More WWF guys coming in was the right move, all the WCW midcarders joining was what watered it down.

Basically what all these anons said. Also the simplicity of that logo and the colors I think really did a lot of favors. Made the faction look much cooler and unlike anything done prior. We can argue all day about how it should have ended or continued but its largely agreed that it definitely could have been better as it went along.
