There's a thing called Goodhart's Law which states "when a measure becomes a target, it ceases to be a good measure". It was used for econometrics and policy stuff, but it applies to loads of things. Tony, by highlighting cagematch in his tweets, has inadvertently destroyed cagematch as a good measure of wrestling reviews, because now people realized he had a target of good cagematch scores, and immediately began to game the system due to their politics against him. The result is that cagematch is essentially worthless now and a warzone full of noise and no signal. He should've known better. He should've known that E-drones are not human.

i think most ratings on cagematch are actually pretty fair. its weird when a wwe show is universally praised on there though and you see a bunch of users who rate every aew show a 10 randomly rate the wwe shows a 2 for no reason though.

Cagematch sucks dick anyway. There's so much cool stuff you could do with a boutique, Letterboxd-like site for pro wrestling. Lists of matches for career or promotion retrospectives, niche lists like best of Australian wrestling, voting tournaments for greatest of all time or the year or something. Too bad it's just a few hundred obese smarks with VDS who have no interest in the actual history of the business, but instead use the site to log every AEW show as a 9 out of 10 and rate Misawa and Jericho as the GOATs.

A month in terms of current wrestling is a massive amount of new content though with WWE and AEW holding a minimum of 24 shows in that time, more if PPVs are involved. You'd end up with maybe 4 or 5 of the most autistic people going back to rate stuff that far.

Off topic, but is anyone noticing there are fewer and fewer curated wrestling torrents? Everything is just “here’s all of this show for year x”. Could go a long way in helping get into older wrestling if everything wasn’t just a file dump. I don’t even think the dvdvr sets are on xwt classics anymore.
