Turning former NCAA/former pro athletes into wrestlers is the exception yet WWE is insisting on turning it into the rule.
There's something that never properly clicks with these former competitive athletes and I've always been amazed by the lack of success.

*note* having athletic experience is not the same as getting recruited straight out of college.

If you get two or three stars in a class of 12 rookies with no background, I'll call that a success. You can always bring more and more of those guys. Take a look at the dudes from ovw, those guys carried the company for more than a decades. Roman is doing that now. That's all you need, then you can have some indie shitters or other talent as supporting character

Look at the state of the indies. No dimes to be found. Taking chad athletes with natural charisma and a following already and trying to turn them into wrestlers is a far better option.
Like someone else said this was what wrestling recruitment was for years, before the mark indie geeks who ruined wrestling got into the ring
