I think he wants to leave and just go back to the indies and free agency, especially with Punk coming back; but for all the console-war spergery, it's important to keep in mind: not only is he making the best money of his career, he's the number-one guy in the company and the lockerroom leader. He has a sense of obligation to AEW he never had in WWE.
Plus, he's probably reasonably confident that Punk'll torpedo himself within a few months. Maybe even weeks. And this isn't just wishful thinking. Punk fucked up being given everything a pro-wrestler could want inside of a year. How long can he possibly last on a comeback?
You just know he's gonna bury Phil with both barrels fired the second he can. Him turning heel might even be a ploy. He could be the actual first guy to work with Punk. He's probably gambling he'll get cheered, and I bet he will.
I'm worried about the boozing, though. He's so obviously back on the sauce. I'm worried he'll go too far.
