I think for a lot of modern wrestlers, mainly indie guys and indie guys that ended up AEW, is that they never thought of wrestling as career more of a hobby.
Not proud of this but I'm from the same part of the country as the bucks, and while I don't recall ever meeting them I was part of the same backyard wrestling circles they were in. There was no concept you were putting a match together, if you thought of a spot there was never consideration that it might not fit into the match, or that you didn't know how to set it up. Everyone had their own camcorder and we were going to flip and bash into each other until we had enough footage to show off to our friends at school. That mindset persists despite decades of real experience and being on TV. It's actually worse, cause it was a huge taboo to not catch people when they dived outside the ring.

When the wrestling looked fake in the 80s, the payoff was something even faker. In the current times, something fake and goofy pays off with a huge flippy thing that you can't do. Back in the day, people assumed it was all fake and there was nothing anyone was doing that a bunch of people couldn't do. Now it's still fake but they do shit I am either unwilling or unable to do but appreciate seeing done. Some folks watch Marvel capeshit for the feeling, I have AEW.

The "payoff" usually didn't follow 60 seconds of set-up and standing around obliviously so it was fundamentally better.
Also flips the aren't really that impressive, anymore. Modern wrestling ignorant to the lwa of diminishing returns.

If you're actually being sincere and want to see crazy flips, AEW is probably the worst place you can get it. All the guys are so green or just put in zero effort. Watch early ROH or early Dragon Gate, it's basically what you think AEW is giving you with much less botches or lazy striking.

It was unrealistic and goofy, but it didn't expose the falsity of what they were doing in the same way as blatantly coordinating with your opponent to set up your next spot. It at the LEAST retained the idea that they were both opposing one another.

Most AEW diehards don't watch other wrestling at all, they just pretend they do. They're the same fake smarks that were huge NXT fans and send Triple H a fruit basket that one time. They just jumped from NXT to AEW when a real alternative to WWE came along.

Indies are dead because AEW signed up all of the talent. When even no talent hacks like Joey Janela or Top Flight are being signed to guaranteed deals where AEW can dictate which indie dates the can or can't take, it's going to negatively impact the indie scene. Plus AEW signed all of the indie vets like Christopher Daniels, Colt Cabana, Chuck Taylor, Jay Lethal, Evil Uno, Matt Sydal, Mark Briscoe, Scorpio Sky, etc so there are no experienced indie vets to helped build the scene and train young talent.

It's validation, and it's the closest wrestling fans get to it because wrestling journalism is a really underdeveloped niche, so you have guys who have critically poor taste and no ability to actually parse why something is good or bad steering the boat.
Even vidya has a better journalistic scene because there's a variety of people who can at the very least elaborate on why thing is good or bad. Meltzer doesn't even "get" wrestling and he's the only one people can look to.

Yeah, but even when NXT was doing the same shit at their peak, we still had indies like ROH, PWG, GCW, MLW, NWA, etc. Then AEW came along and signed what few big name indie talent was left (and eventually straight up bought the biggest indie promotion) and it completely tanked the indie scene.
