Finally watched it.
What a fucking match. Yota was so fucking over, his character stuff, the flurry that lead into the curbstomp, this guy needs to be future IWGP Champion. The man carries himself like he's the biggest threat in NJPW.
Also SANADA was fucking great. Never was his biggest fan in LIJ, but he played the part of "experienced veteran" so well against Yota, he's maybe on the best run of his NJPW career, both match and character work.

Coughlin is actually very decent. He can cut a decent promo as well like he did before his match against Shibata on ROH. He is not a good fit for BC imo but it should be good exposure for him regardless.

That is inaccurate. He refused to get an extension and wanted to move to other pastures when he wasn't on the G1 and had a huge meltdown on Twitter. New Japan were very high on him, as proven when they had him beat Ren Narita just a few months prior. His meltdown his well documented for months. Someone even took a screenshot of the highlights and posted them here.

Karl has always done his DJ shtick on the side. He is in fact the guy that made Clark Connor's first theme before he changed to rap.

Where to put the match depends on a lot of factors, such as who they want out of that block. I doubt either Okada or Kaito are making it out of their block but if Okada were and you wanted to give Kaito the victory, you'd probably put the match right near the start. If you wanted Okada to pass and have it be TLD, you'd likely do it near but not at the end, and so on

I'll repeat myself and say that it should be in the same block just to properly advertise the match.
The smarks will know the match will happen at the semi-final round, but you want everyone to know and be hyped for one card in particular.

Also, something I didn't even consider until now, but if Okada and Kaito faced each other in the semi finals, then Okada would probably win. I'm a New Jachad but I don't want Kaito to get that badly KWABbed again kek

I expect it'll be in the same block because it's the best chance for Kaito to get a win which is how I expect this will be booked -- to set up a rematch, probably on a big NOAH show to help give them some buzz or something and a bigger gate (though Okada will probably win that match, or it'll be a draw).
Could slot it on a NJPW show as well, though Okada certainly goes over in the third match no matter what.

The entire purpose of this is to help out NOAH though and for that to happen, Kaito needs an upset.

Personally I would put them in separate blocks. Have Kaito win his block and face Okada in the semis, pulling off the upset before losing in the finals to Naito. Then do the rubber match in September.

You cannot put naito, finlay and ospreay in the same block and then leave the D block with mid carders. Every block should have at least 2 guys that people can seriously expect to win the block. You want to distribute Ospreay, Okada, Naito, Tanahashi, SANADA, Finlay, Kaito and Kingston in different blocks, with 2 of them in one block. So Okada and Kaito together. SANADA and Tanahashi together. Finlay and Kingston together. Naito and Ospreay together.

I think it's like the BoSJ finals, except doubled. So A block winner vs B block runner up, B block winner vs A block runner up, and likewise for C and D. Hey, it gives us two more big matches than there would be otherwise.

Having most of the young guys along with revitalized SANADA and Kaito is a bit of a mixed bag because we miss out of a lot of matches they could do with the rest of the roster (no doubt we'll get those matches in the future anyway, so not a huge deal) but the idea of all of these recent YLs in the same block being fiercely competitive with each other and trying to best the champion could make it the most kino block in the tournament.

A block is also building up Tsuji more. He is already saying that he doesn't like being put in the A block with the rest of the shitters + SANADA and is talking like he is leagues better than Umino and Narita.
