Ratings are just an extension of recommendation. It use to mean if a match was 4 or higher it was worth going out of your way to see. This was when the only way to watch matches outside your territory or even matches you didn’t catch that week you had get a bootleg vhs tape in the mail.
Now with the network, YouTube, and torrents going out of your way to see something is that big of s deal so the standard of a great match has completely cratered as a result.

Nah, that's cope. Matches were very easy to find in the early 2010s and Meltzer still respected the 5 stars.
It all went to shit in 2017. Okada VS Omega at WK is what started it. And AEW being "so much better than WWE" was the final nail in the coffin.

if he rated them legitimately he'd get heat so for women's matches you need to subtract around 2 stars to get the actual rating usually
this means he also adds more stars to men's matches so it's not as obvious. Subtract around 1-1.5 stars for the actual ratings on most men's matches.
