"Hulk looked at me and said, 'Not today,'" Bischoff said. "If you're going to beat me when I have this type of momentum, this is about making money," Hogan said. "Whenever you beat somebody, you beat them in a way that they're better off after they're beat than they were before. And Eric really wasn't sure where we were going with this thing." The situation was made even crazier because, according to Bischoff, this is the first time Hogan, who had full creative control in his contract with WCW, had ever used it in this sort of way. "It was like, yeah, it's there, but it's not," Bischoff said regarding the clause. "Except for that night, and because Hulk wasn't feeling it, he called an audible, and it was a mad scramble." As Bischoff explained, Hogan's decision not to put Sting over that night led to some pretty iffy moments prior to the match. So iffy, that Hogan claims to have ultimately relented, leading to what fans eventually saw. "It got to the point where there was too much tension," Hogan said. "I said, 'Okay brother, I'll put him over. No big deal. We'll figure it out.'"

Hogan is the last real WCW champion. I don't count this title change. Bret was not sanctioned to be the referee for this match. just because he was allowed to officiate Bischoff vs Zbysko doesn't mean he can officiate Sting vs Hogan or any other match he wants. Nick Patrick's count was fair, there was nothing controversial about it. Bret's inference afterwards should not be counted.

Instead of watching that edited crap. there was a podcast where Bischoff and Nick Patrick talked together about what happened. Sting was originally supposed to go over clean. The day of the show, Sting shows up and expected to be screwed over by Hogan, making him come off as off-put or disinterested. Sting, Hogan, and Bischoff had a meeting and at that meeting, they put together the screwjob finish. After that, Bischoff finds Patrick and explains the finish but makes it seem like he should do a normal count. Hogan finds Patrick and tells him "nice and slow, brother". Sting finds him and tells him "rapid fire". Bischoff literally fuckin hides from everyone. Patrick counts a normal count because that's what Bischoff original told him to do and he couldn't find Bischoff to clarify. Nick Patrick thinks this all was done to fuck over Sting because he "didn't seem like he had his head in the game" when he showed up, and Nick Patrick was a scapegoat so everyone can say "no this all made sense but he fucked up the finish".

It was already bad enough that Hogan had to bury Sting at Starrcade 1997, now he was taking the belt again just 4 months later. Lets take a look at the ratings war while Sting was champion in 1998: 1998-02-23 3.2 4.6 1998-03-02 3.8 4.8 1998-03-09 3.6 4.9 1998-03-16 N/A 5.1 1998-03-23 3.6 4.6 1998-03-30 3.8 4.2 1998-04-06 4.4 4.6 1998-04-13 4.6 4.2 Sting would win every single week of the ratings war as champion with the exception of his very last week. Now lets take a look at when Hogan won the belt right afterwards: 1998-04-27 5.7 1.72 1998-05-04 5.5 3.5 1998-05-11 4.3 4.3 1998-05-18 5.3 2.51 1998-05-25 4.2 4.2 1998-06-01 4.4 3.7 1998-06-08 4.3 4 As we can see here, the very first Nitro after Hogan won the title again, the ratings dropped all the way down to a pathetic 1.72. This clearly proves fans were tuning out from Hogan by 1998 and were clearly sick of him. Not only was Hogan not a ratings draw but he was turning into an anti ratings draw. Than he continued to lose week after week with just two ties and no ratings war wins as champion. Despite being a poor draw as champion, Hogan would go on to continue main eventing PPVS over Goldberg after losing the belt to him.

>>10532751 what storylines have even had good finishes in wrestling?
it's like comic books and soap operas, every storyline gets dragged out as long as possible and then dropped. they never end with a proper resolution.
