The main reason I don't buy it as accidental is because they so clearly don't seem like the kind of injuries you get by accident. I know from familial experience that to get a black eye from a legit fall, you have to land on a lot more of your face than Ross is doing.
Tony needs to keep him off TV. Beyond the fact that he's clearly not putting in any effort, it's just sad to see someone in this bad a shape regularly on TV. It'd be like keeping Bobby Heenan on commentary after he lost his voice.
